Happy New Year!
Now I’m not one for new year resolutions but the new year does give you time to reflect and re assess, something I do like to do.
Usually people turn to thoughts over their health and wellbeing, you may have indulged a little over the festive period and feel the need to de-tox, or maybe change or alter a few diet or exercise regimes. It’s a great time to look back but more important to look forward.
Essential oils and or massage could be a part of the new you. Many of the oils have properties that may motivate you or offer you energy; which can be hard to find with the dark mornings and short hours of sunlight. Massage may be able to invigorate you or boost your immune system. Studies show that when we feel nurtured and looked after our immune system copes better with bugs and viruses thrown at it!
How to use essential oils in your every day life
A simple way to incorporate essential oils into your everyday life is to vaporise them. You can easily get a vaporiser from most health food shops or look online. You can purchase candle driven ones, or electrical ones. Either will do the job just as effectively, it’s just a matter of taste and or practical issues. If you have young children or inquisitive pets an electrical device may be safer.
Don’t be afraid to use them at your place of work, they aren’t just for home use. Do ask your colleagues, but hopefully they will thank you for the added aromatic pleasure of your chosen oils and you may make them feel positive and motivated too! If using at home my favourite place is to put the vaporiser in the hallway so that it filters throughout your home.
Here’s a couple of my favourite blends to get you motivated and get you the through the dark winter months
3 drops of Sweet Orange, Citrus sinensis
2 drops of Cardamon, Ellettaria cardamomum
3 drops of Bergamot, Citrus bergamia
2 drops of Cedarwood, Cedrus atlanticus
4 drops of Grapefruit, Citrus paradisi
1 drop of Frankincense, Boswellia carterii
1 drop of Neroli, Citrus aurantium
You may be fortunate enough to have significant other that is willing to offer you a foot rub or shoulder massage. If so the following bend is a great way to revitalise you. (More appropriate for a day application than an evening massage.)
To 20ml of vegetable oil add the following:
3 drops of Ginger, Zingiber officinale
2 drops of Frankincense, Boswellia carterii
5 drops of Mandarin, Citrus reticulata
