BACK IN THE CLASSROOM
I have noticed that many educators are moving online because of the Pandemic and for some that is a brilliant way to learn, but for me as a therapist who specialises in treating people holistically with touch and aroma I would find it near impossible to teach any type of course that has a practical element without being in the same room as the students.
To share the experience of learning a new massage technique or inhaling a new essential oil for the first time is a wonderful, powerful way to learn. You are present with like minded individuals with their nuances and stories, you are participating and learning with each other.
That is why at from the seed I will endeavor to offer IRL (in real life) CPD. This at present includes all theory classes too, Aromatherapy for Stress & Anxiety and Aromatherapy for Menopause. These two courses do not offer massage techniques, but you will learn and smell essential oils and share personal experience in a safe space, where you can ask questions at any time and not have to write them in a ‘chat box’. You will grow your own support network with your fellow students and the tutor.
The pandemic has made us change a lot of things in or lives, but I for one am really trying to hold on to the value of face-to-face teaching.
Face-to-face learning has so many benefits over online learning. Communication is easier in person, as a teacher I am able to pick up on small cues that would be lost on a screen. We release dopamine when we have face to face conversations and practice massage together
Research that has come out over the pandemic shows that however good your internet connection, however comfy you are in your pj’s whilst learning, nothing really replaces the benefits of IRL learning. How many times over the last 2 years have you logged on for a workshop or a webinar and found yourself feeling fatigued at the end of the session or having spent all day on zoom meetings, the last thing you want to do is go online again? We also tend to multitask whilst at our computers, we are so used to checking our phone or receiving notifications, all a constant distraction. In class its phones off!
Don’t get me wrong, I am very grateful for the choice and for some people internet learning is ideal. But for now, I am aiming to continue to offer CPD IRL!!!
All from the seed training is in Brighton, so come and spend a weekend by the seaside, be taught by a host of amazing well respected Aromatherapists and leave with new skills, new connections and new inspiration!
I hope to see you soon!
