WINTER WARMING ESSENTIAL OILS

Well it certainly is cold out there

This morning I woke to a very strong frost, it was beautiful however, as the sky was clear and it has turned into a glorious sunny winters day!
Did you know that some Essential Oils have warming properties? They can be used to stimulate circulation. They are mostly chosen for their ability to bring relief to achy muscles but when its cold outside they can be blended to bring warmth to your muscles. Like a hot water bottle. These Essential oils are also immune tonics, something very welcome at this time of year.

A bath is a great way to use the oils to bring warmth. Please see my blog on how to prepare an aromatherapy bath.

Winter Essential Oils

Ginger – Zingiber officinale is a great winter warmer. It can bring relief to tired and achy muscles but it also stimulates the circulation and will leave you feeling warm all over.
Cardamon – Ellettaria cardamomum, is also a great circulation stimulant – it is however very energising so not great for a bed time bath.
Vetiver – Vetiveria zizanoides, is a firm favourite of mine. It has a warm foresty, earthy aroma, reminiscent of winter walks and sitting by a fireside. This oil also blends very well with those mentioned above. Its definitely a more sedative oil and will bring calm and tranquillity to you.
The use of the Citrus oils at this time of year can bring hope for the Spring as they remind us of warmer days. Why not try Sweet Orange –Citrus sinensis, alongside either the Ginger, Cardamon or Vetiver to add a zesty, but balancing effect on your blend.
If you don’t have time to take a bath you can always use a combination of the oils mentioned above in a burner or vaporiser. This way you still get the benefits of the immune boosting properties the oils can offer.
You can add up to 8 drops in total to a burner (always read the instructions provided though as they do differ). I like to use my vaporiser in the hallway, this way it filters around my home and is beneficial to everyone. If you have a baby in the house, under the age of 2, you should drop the amount of Essential Oils used to 5 drops in total.
All of the oils mentioned above are considered safe to use in pregnancy but if you have any doubts or concerns please do get in touch or consult a professional Aromatherapist.
Keep snug and I hope you’ve noticed that its getting darker later, my daffodils have managed to push their way up through the soil, always such a lovely reminder that Spring is around the corner!
