BACK TO SCHOOL
So, the summer holidays are over and September means back to school!
Some children are delighted to return to school, others need a little more encouragement. Maybe your child is starting school for the first time or moving schools. This is an exciting time but also an anxious one too.
Did you know that with a few essential oils you could make this transition a little easier for you and your children? You could make a blend and apply with some massage. Children often hold their anxiety in their tummy. Gentle massage is a great way to soothe a tummy ache, reduce anxiety or help with bedtime.
Touch is wonderful way to encourage communication. Talking about how they feel whilst receiving a loving touch is a very simple but effective therapeutic tool.
I would suggest three essential oils to help you.
Roman Chamomile anthemis nobilis
Calming for fraught emotions, also a good sedative
Lavender lavandula angustifolia
A classic sedative and soothing for the digestive system
Mandarin citrus reticulata
Gently calming to the emotions and again a wonderful tonic for the digestive system
It is very important to get the right dilution for your child and this can be worked out depending on their age.
For your child starting school, age 4–5, you will need:
4 drops in total of essential oil in 20 ml of base/vegetable oil
2 drops of Mandarin
1 drop of Lavender
1 drop of Roman Chamomile
If your child is moving up to secondary school the dilution would be:
8 drops in total of essential oil in 20 ml of base/vegetable oil
4 drops of Mandarin
2 drops of Lavender
2 drops of Roman Chamomile
Using the dilutions, mentioned above, take a little of your blend and spend some time massaging your child’s tummy or anywhere they feel might be nice. If massaging the tummy try to work in a clockwise direction around the belly button.
Massage is a excellent way to open up a dialogue, catch up and have real quality, one to one time with your little one.
I love essential oils and what they can achieve, but for me, massage is so wonderful and by giving your child a few moments of your time with a tender loving touch is fantastic thing to do!
We are a tactile species and we all need touch to thrive.
Good luck with easing back into the routine, before you know it, it’ll be half term!
