ESSENTIAL OILS THAT BRING CALM AND FOCUS TO YOUR BUSY LIFE!

I don’t know about you but running my own business and being a Mum keeps me pretty busy!

I am juggling stuff all the time and I must say my head gets a bit full and sometimes I can feel overwhelmed. What about if you are about to become a Mum for the first time?  Friends and family may be offering you all sorts of advice, any decision you make will be right because it will be yours, but what about a little help to focus and clarify?

Read on if you are struggling to switch off, can’t focus, or just need some clarity in your day to day life.

Using essential oils in a burner

As an aromatherapist I often use my Essential Oils in a burner or vaporiser. This is an effective way to use the oils between massage treatments and are best used for room fragrancing, to combat air borne infections or for the purpose of this blog to bring calm, focus and clarity.
Did you know that the use of incense for mediation is there to deepen the breathe and bring focus? Many of the ingredients found in incense are also essential oils.
Frankincense, Boswellia carterii, is a wonderful EO for calming the breath. It brings clarity and space. It has the ability to deepen the breath which will slow down your heart rate and bring a sense of calm to your day. It also helps us in acceptance and focuses our thoughts so that we can make decisions and move forward.
You could also try Lemon, Citrus limonum, fresh positive and clean. Add this to your burner with Frankincense to uplift and cleanse.
Another of my favourites is Geranium, Pelargonium graveolens, sweet and floral which soothes and calms.  This can also be added to Lemon for gentle clarity.
Another lovely combination is Lavender, Lavandula angustifolia and Grapefruit, Citrus paradisi. Lavender is well known to relax, it can also help you move forward, perhaps when we you  are stuck or can’t make a decision.  Grapefruit is good for easing us through disappointment- together they make a great combination.
So let me explain how to use your chosen Essential Oils in a burner or vaporiser.
A burner is driven by a candle, usually a tea light. It has a small reservoir where you add your chosen Essential Oils and some water. Light the candle, stand the burner on a flat surface away from children and pets. Don’t let the water dry out, keep an eye on it and refill as necessary. For an average size room add 4-6 drops in total of your chosen Essential Oils.

A vaporiser is an electrical device where you only add essential oils to the reservoir; there is no need for water. Again use the same amount of oils for your vaporiser as stated above.  Make sure  you place your vaporiser away from small people and pets and refill as required, don’t leave it on indefinitely  it will destroy the heating element inside.

You may also wish to use your Essential Oils in a bath to accomplish the same effect. Please refer to an earlier blog on how to prepare an Aromatherapy Bath.
Whatever combination of Essential oils you decide to use, make sure you take the time to enjoy the aroma and hopefully instill a sense of peace and tranquility into your busy day!
