Geranium – Pelargonium graveolens
Throughout Menopause Awareness Month, I’m exploring four essential oils that can support you on your menopause journey, this week I am taking a closer look at Geranium, pelargonium graveolens
The keyword for Geranium is BALANCE.
Geranium has a long, strong association with supporting hormonal balance, particularly for women around the menstrual cycle. Its sweet floral aroma brings comfort and reassurance. Helpful for all stages of a woman’s hormonal journey from puberty right through to Menopause.
A study undertaken in 2017 showed that salivary levels of Oestrogen were heightened just from inhaling certain essential oils, and Geranium was one of them!

It can also be used as a wonderful skin oil as it has properties that soothe congestion, including acne, eczema, or inflamed skin. If the skin flares up from hormonal changes again Geranium can be useful in restoring harmony.
Even without hormonal imbalance, Geranium is helpful for soothing emotional upset. Useful for states of frustration, emotional exhaustion and anxiety.
How to use
To create a relaxing atmosphere add up to 8 drops of Geranium to your diffuser
For a nourishing face blend add 1 drop of Geranium to 5ml of base/vegetable oil (my favourite is Jojoba)
For a body massage blend you can add up to 5 drops in total for every 10ml of vegetable oil.
To reduce feelings of imbalance add I drop of Geranium onto a tissue and inhale
What does it blend with?
Geranium pairs beautifully with other floral essential oils, and compliments woody and citrus essential oils too.
